online tutoring business support for tutors

I would like to know if offering a free hour of tutoring is effective in gaining new clients. I heard some people take the free tutoring and never use the service again. So I decided to offer an hour of tutoring but the client has to sign up for a month of service and at least get tutored twice a week. Im hoping clients go for this. But I would like imput from people that already have their business established. plus how much did you intially charge for service. I want my my prices to be competitive. I figure in the 30 dollar to 60 dollar range (60 range for SAT and ACT services). Please offer imput.

Right I think your points are on target. As far as walking away. i feel I will offer a ver good service. At least that is my aim.
I feel it is a good to offer a contract. My aim is not for parents to walk away, but for them to have an option. I take it from the stand point of if I was a parent who had never heard of online tutoring or any other realatively new service. I would not want to sign up if I knew I was "locked in." Plus I give a week notice to cancel. The client will still get charged for the remaining week of service. So I won't be completely out of payment.

I don't understand your point above.

Are you saying that you are going to offer contracts? If so, what do you mean by "My aim is not for parents to walk away, but for them to have an option"?

What option are you referring to?
